For approved Metaphors trainers
Help your trainees stay connected
Introduce current or former trainees to The Metaphor Society and receive a thank-you payment for each qualifying new member.
The programme is open to approved trainers. Detailed instructions, sharing examples, payment information and programme terms are kept in the expandable section below.
Trainer sign-up, examples and programme details
How to sign up
- Use the Apply to join the programme button and complete the short application form.
- The Society will confirm your eligibility and send you a personal trainer code and referral link.
- Save the full link exactly as supplied. Your trainer code is built into it and allows the referral to be recorded.
- Share it directly with current or former trainees who may genuinely benefit from membership.
- Include a clear disclosure that you may receive a £10 referral payment if they join.
- The trainee follows your link and completes the normal membership form. If necessary, they can enter your trainer code or name in the optional referral field.
- When their payment has cleared and their membership has remained active for 30 days, your £10 reward becomes eligible for the next quarterly payment run.
Example referral link
A trainer with the example code ALEX_SMITH would receive a link like this:
https://metaphorsociety.com/join-the-metaphor-society/?utm_source=ALEX_SMITH&utm_medium=trainer_referral&utm_campaign=membership
This is only an example. Always use the personal link supplied to you and do not change its trainer code or tracking information.
Hide your long link behind a button
You do not need to show the full referral address. In an email, course portal or webpage, create a short button and attach your complete personal link to it. The buttons below are visual examples; on your own material, replace the destination with the personal referral link supplied to you.
How to attach your referral link
- Copy the complete personal referral link supplied by the Society.
- Create a button—or highlight a short phrase such as Explore membership—in your email, website or learning portal.
- Choose the link or insert-link option and paste your complete referral address as the destination.
- Save the message or page, then test the button. Check that the address still contains
utm_source=YOURCODEafter it opens. - Keep the referral disclosure close to the button so trainees know that you may receive £10 if they join.
Messages you can adapt
Email example
If you would like to continue exploring metaphor after the training, you may be interested in The Metaphor Society. Membership includes online talks, recordings, articles and access to an international community. You can find out more and join here: [YOUR PERSONAL LINK]
For transparency, I may receive a £10 referral payment if you become a member through this link. The membership price is the same either way.
Short message example
You might enjoy The Metaphor Society’s talks, recordings and articles: [YOUR PERSONAL LINK]. I may receive a £10 referral payment if you join through my link; there is no extra cost or discount attached to it.
Course handout or learning portal
Continue your learning with The Metaphor Society: [YOUR PERSONAL LINK]. Trainer referral disclosure: I may receive £10 if you use this link to become a qualifying member.
Good practice: keep the disclosure close to the link, recommend membership only when relevant, and avoid unsolicited bulk messages or claims that the link provides a discount.
What counts as a successful referral?
- The trainee is not already an active member of The Metaphor Society.
- They use your personal referral link or provide your trainer code when joining.
- Their membership application is accepted and their first payment clears.
- The membership remains active for at least 30 days.
- The payment is not refunded, reversed or charged back.
The reward is paid once for each qualifying new member. Membership prices and benefits are the same whether or not a referral link is used; the programme does not provide a trainee discount.
Referral links and attribution
Your personal link contains a trainer code that is recorded when the trainee joins. Encourage trainees to use the link from the beginning of the signup process. If they join without it, they may enter your trainer code or name where that option is provided.
Only one trainer can be credited for a membership. Where more than one referral is claimed, the link or code recorded during signup will normally determine attribution. Please contact the Society promptly if you believe a referral has not been recorded correctly.
Rewards and payment
- The reward is £10 for each successful referral.
- Rewards become eligible after the 30-day validation period.
- Eligible rewards are normally paid quarterly using a payment method agreed with the trainer.
- Trainers are responsible for any tax or reporting obligations that apply to their rewards.
Programme terms
- Eligibility. Participation is available to trainers approved by The Metaphor Society. Participation may be refused or ended at the Society’s reasonable discretion.
- Appropriate referrals. Trainers should recommend membership only where it is relevant and should not use unsolicited bulk messages, misleading statements or pressure-based selling.
- Disclosure. Trainers should tell prospective members that they may receive a £10 reward if the person joins through their link.
- No self-referrals. A trainer cannot claim a reward for their own membership or for a payment they control.
- No guarantee of membership. A referral does not guarantee acceptance. Membership remains subject to the Society’s Membership Policy and standards.
- Privacy. The Society may confirm that a referral has qualified, but will not disclose unnecessary personal or account information about the trainee.
- Independent relationship. Participation does not create an employment, agency or partnership relationship between the trainer and the Society.
- Changes. The Society may amend or close the programme on reasonable notice. Rewards already earned under the published rules will remain payable.
Use of a trainer referral link constitutes acceptance of these programme terms. These terms operate alongside the Membership Policy and the Membership Standards and Code of Conduct.
